We are introducing some new prizes at our AAB his year for any VWs or other Diesel cars that compete. We want to expand this event to include diesel car owners who would like to compete. So please, let your friends know, let your car clubs know, show up to the track this year. If we have enough of you guys, we may end up running you separately from the diesel trucks. IMO i think it would be cool to see a 2400 lb car go head to head with some high flyin trucks and smoke them at the finish line. I knwo there are some out there that are juiced up and can do a 1/4 mile pass in under 14 seconds. Hope to see you all out there.
ONLINE REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE UP AND RUNNING IN FEBRUARY!! -------------------- ![]() |

Well i plan on coming to the 2010 blackout with a diesel car, but not a volkswagon, and certainly not a 14 second car. I plan on taking my 1980 Oldsmobile Delta 98, with a 5.7L Oldsmobile.
This i a video i have of it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOwgcDMgXUE -------------------- -1985 GMC 2500-6.2L diesel with banks turbo, custom Pre-turbo intake and exhaust (Together with maxed out IP make 15 peak PSI). Originally had a 700r-4 than swapped in a 4-speed non overdrive manual (sm465), and finally a 5-speed overdrive manual (NV3500). Engine is being taken out (bad rings, probably broken on one of the cylinders) , inspected and if the block passes it will get a complete rebuild with some "top secret" fuel modifications. Engine to replace it in the mean time is a 1985 block (i wish it were a 599) with the banks turbo, new rings, new timing chain, and new gaskets.

Heads maybe but the main block would be a chev 350 4 bolt main, the only real difference would be the heads and injection system. Was Chev's first try at diesels, weren't that popular though.

Kronic Well despite popular belief, the 5.7L diesel is not a gas block. It is however BASED on the Oldsmobile block, and has 2 bolt mains like all Oldsmobile engines. The block is much thicker and heavier than its Oldsmobile gas block counterpart, is made of stronger (higher grade) alloys and has the same 3" main crank journals as the big block. Also the diesel block has the injection pump mount built in. The main problems with the engines were they never came with a fuel/water separator which ruined the injection pumps, there were only 10 bolts per head, making for chronic head gasket problems, and they only had 105-120hp stock. One other thing (maintenance related) Is that GM recommended a gasoline oil (10w30) to be put in, which is a big no-no for diesels. *There were two different versions of the oldsmobile diesel 5.7L the "D" and the later "DX". Mine is the earlier "D" block *An Oldsmobile gas cannot be converted to a diesel, but with kits that are sold, you can convert them to gas. They are often used as racing blocks by Oldsmobile enthusiasts. -------------------- -1985 GMC 2500-6.2L diesel with banks turbo, custom Pre-turbo intake and exhaust (Together with maxed out IP make 15 peak PSI).
