So here's the deal. I friend if mine who is employed in the A/C industry has come up with an idea to cool the intake air -pre or post intercooler. Has anyone tried this and if so did it work or was it just a super waste of time? I can see the principle behind it, but dont want to start ripping on my new rig. If it does work ,are there any products or systems available. I think it would be a sweet idea- you could control the air temp to within a degree no matter what the ouside temp is. Would this not help in acheiving more consistent times on the strip as well as on the highway/street? So ya , if anyone has tried please let me know before i go nuts with a bottle of 134a and a rool of stainless tubing.

that sounds like an awesome idea! basically just a chiller right?? or a heat exchanger i guess it would be called, you could run the refridged air thru, tubing and the charge air around it. with some engineering (case of beer in a well lit shop) i think for sure it would work!!

oh yea i forgot... you cant run a/c on the strip. thats npbra regs anyway, im not sure about other racing associations and groups though.

i've seen something very similar in the import market. but they dont use A/C. they run a coil accross their intercooler and when they want the big chill they purge CO2 thru it. what i've read claims that it can drop intake temps into the negatives. i've heard mixed reviews about how well it works and in what applications. and not really sure how much CO2 they use and where it gets purged. i've heard that some purge it into their exhaust so it doesnt turn into condesate. i've heard of it being done a few time but was a while ago. guess its time for that well lit shop and a case of cool berverages.

What would all the hippies say when I roll through town gettin 22mpg, pumpin CO2 onto my intercooler and into my exhaust? It would be cheap power though. CO2 is all over the place at work. Twin 100l Co2 cylinders in the box as well as the NOS and Propane Injection, as well as water meth. Just need a bigger dash to hold all the switches. I could leave the wife at home and replace her with the laptop computer so I can monitor the engine. I might be onto something here.

IHRA rules don't allow for air conditioners to be run while racing and I am sure NHRA will be the same. That CryO2 is what you would be looking for. Now as for the computer management.......that would be really cool! Alot of work but cool when completed.

has anyone seen first hand how well the CryO2 system works in our application? are there trucks out there with this system on it? by the looks of the install requirments it'd almost be worth while to toss it on and see what change it makes. even on a dyno.

once you get some time to play with it i'd love to hear what it has to offer. seeing how big of an intake temp difference it makes could be pretty cool. how big of a kit do you have? whats all in it?

I think Barry brought it in to see if we could do anything with it. I think we are looking at if it will be "allowed" to be used. It should help reduce temps in extreme situations though !!

the big question is how big of a temp difference there will be using it. i'm not sure what the normal temp coming out of an intercooler is but a 20-50 degree drop in temp sounds pretty significant (even if its in deg F). more dense air means more fuel, more fuel means more fun....... this is a nasty circle we live in... i can see where it'd only be used for short applications due to the ammount of CO2 a person could carry. and the benefit would probably be more visible with the more modded vehichles. especially with the trucks running large turbo's at high boost...... do you know when you guys might be testing it out?

Sorry, Barry has not tried it out yet. With all the DPF elim. testing & trying to get these 2008's running it has been put aside for now.

I fitted a water to air intercooler to my RD28t GQ patrol. Although it was not the denco brand sourced through the states at a fraction of the cost. It made a unreal difference even without touching the pump I may be wrong but i cant see a problem in getting the water "mega cool" as every 4 degree C drop in intake temp is good for 1hp extra.
