How do I determine if I have the LLY or the LBZ in my 2006 truck?

I'm a Dodge guy but I think you can look at the block and there should be a name plate on it. The Serial number should have either LLY or LBZ in it.

Look at your vin # if the 8th digit is a 2 I think you have the lly if it's other than that I think you would have the LBZ. Cheers

Also you can look at the sticker in the glove box. It has all the codes for color engine trans ect. look for either lbz or lly

OK SORRY TO BRING THIS UP. I HAVE A LLY ENGINE. AND I AM BRAND NEW IN THE DURAMAX WORLD WHAT ARE THE DRAW BACKS FOR MY LLY TO THE LBZ? THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS! SHOULD I NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS MODEL?

You have the early LLY 2006 with 310hp, 605tq. The later LBZ 2006 has 360hp, 650tq. Everything else is basically the same in both trucks. (Air kit, 6-spd.Allison, etc...)
When doing any mods such as chips/programers or even an air kit, your truck is considered an LBZ. If you order LLY stuff from the 2004.5-05 model, it won't work.
